During his training, he participated in two medical mission trips; one to Guatemala and another to Ghana where he worked with a team to provide medical care to under-served populations. He aspires to be able to do more activities like this in the future.
When asked what he likes about his job, city, people, etc., Dr. Aijaz stated: “I love Austin for its outdoor activities, weather (in the fall and winter), friendly people, great food, wonderful scenery, and outrageous pollen levels. I love pain management because I can see and appreciate the changes I can make in my patients’ lives. My first exposure to the specialty was in residency. Seeing how I could ease a patient’s symptoms and watch them make a recovery back to their previous functional levels and improve their social interactions with their family and friends really made me feel like this was the career for me. I find it to be a very rewarding and fulfilling career. I really cannot imagine doing anything else. Additionally, with it being a newer field of medicine, seeing the advances in medications and technology to better help our patients has been fascinating.”
