Mihnea Dumitrescu, MD
Specialist Bio
Born in Romania, Dr. Dumitrescu fled communism and political persecution on his own, at age 20, to come to the United States. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Philosophy and Religion and attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. While in medical school, he discovered his passion for musculoskeletal, spine and sports medicine. He went on to complete his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans followed by an Interventional Spine/Pain Management fellowship under Charles Aprill, M.D. He founded Precision Pain Consultants in 2007 in Austin, Texas as a mainly interventional sports and spine clinic.
During his first several years of practice, he has learned the shortcomings of traditional interventional and surgical procedure as they relate to spine and sports injuries, and in 2013 his practice became focused on Regenerative Medicine, for both peripheral musculoskeletal conditions and spine disorders.
In 2015, Dr. Dumitrescu became interested in Functional Medicine, with the aim of health optimization. Precision Pain Consultants thus became Precision Regenerative and Functional Medicine, with the aim of solving long-standing pain problems through a combined Regenerative and Functional Medicine approach. Dr. Dumitrescu believes that Regenerative Medicine and Functional Medicine approaches to care can combine to unlock healing potential and re-establish the healthy lifestyle that his patients deserve.
Dr. Dumitrescu is also passionate about general fitness and human performance, especially as they relate to longevity. He has been able to leverage his Regenerative Medicine and health optimization knowledge to maximize sports performance in both professional and amateur athletes.
In November 2024, Dr. Dumitrescu joined Advanced Pain Care on a part-time basis. He looks forward to leveraging his past experience towards adopting other advanced pain management techniques, such as spinal and peripheral nerve stimulation, in this new setting.
In his spare time, he spends time with his wife and two children, works out, reads, and aims to learn as much as possible about race cars and maybe even become a better driver.
